Project Description

This project was created to help developers work with Telerik Grid for ASP.NET MVC coupled with some mapping techniques to convert Entities into ViewModels.

If you're one of us, you have to implement CustomBinding in order to query the database reporting some criteria for sort, group and filter the income data, and then convert back the result to a list of ViewModels.

Sounds simple, but can become a very complicated and repetitive task.

So TelerikMvcGridCustomBindingHelper was built in order to automate this process in a very smooth way.

DISCLAIMER: this is experimental software that may not work as advertised. In particular, it has not been tested on Mono. Please help us improve it by sending feedback and fixes.
  • It can take advantage of AutoMapper mappings.
  • It was developed on top of NHibernate, but could work with another ORMs;

About versioning: The version numbers of TelerikMvcGridCustomBindingHelper releases comply to the Semantic Versioning scheme. In other words, major version zero (0.y.z) is for initial development and anything may change at any time, release 1.1.0 only adds backwards-compatible functionality and bug fixes compared to 1.0.0. Release 1.0.1 should only include bug fixes. And if I ever introduce breaking changes, the number increased to 2.0.0.

What is the future of Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC now that Telerik have released Kendo UI for ASP.NET MVC?

From Telerik official MVC & Kendo UI FAQ:

"Telerik remains committed to providing the best tools in the industry for ASP.NET MVC developers. To that end, Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC will enter a maintenance phase following the Telerik DevTools Q2 2012 release. The Q2 2012 release will contain new features and updates for the existing Telerik Extensions.
After the Q2 2012 release, the Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC will receive 3 releases over the next year - consisting primarily of bug fixes and minor enhancements - before development is discontinued in Q3 of 2013.
Kendo UI for ASP.NET MVC is intended to be the successor of Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC and is recommended for new ASP.NET MVC development. The introduction of Kendo UI for ASP.NET MVC compliments and enhances Telerik’s ability to deliver more value to ASP.NET MVC developers."

That's it for now, I hope you enjoy.
